Rider of the month: Bianca

When Bianca saw her Felsberg 125 in the showroom, it was love at first sight. In this exclusive interview with motorcycle journalist, Guido Urfei, and his photographer, Tim Ulama, she explains how it got her pulse racing.

Nurse, please pass the swab!

As a nurse, it’s not in Bianca’s nature to hesitate. Why wait for the doctor to arrive if you can tackle the problem yourself? And her instincts out of work are just as sharp, which is why her pulse hit the roof as soon as she saw the Felsberg 125 in a showroom. It was an instant love affair. Three months later, and she’s been in the saddle of her cargo green motorcycle every day since.

1. How long have you been riding a motorcycle?

In the 80s I drove a Simson – back when it was East Germany. That was my first experience of two-wheel engines. I’ve only had the Felsberg 125 since June, but there isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not thrilled by it.

2. Tell me, how quickly did you fall in love with the Felsberg?

I was interested in buying a motorcycle, so I went out with a friend to have a look around. We visited the Brixton dealer by chance, and that’s where I saw the Felsberg standing in the sales room. Straight away, I knew it had to be her.

3. How do you feel about the retro look combined with modern tech?

I like the cross-retro army style, and camouflage green and olive are my favourite colours. I didn’t have to think long about choosing a colour. As far as the technology is concerned, I was amazed at everything that can be done on a motorcycle: LED headlights, disc brakes that grip tightly with little effort, and cool details such as the protective grille on the headlight. In the meantime, I have attached a few packing rolls and extras that go great with the army look

4. What’s the craziest ride you’ve taken so far?

My very first one! The friend I took shopping is an old motorcycle expert, but he managed to run out of fuel on the ride home from the dealer. Thankfully I had my Brixton, so we used it to go and get a can of petrol.

Rider of the month: Bianca

It’s freedom on two wheels.

5. What do your colleagues and patients say about your Brixton?

They’re all hooked. Several are even considering riding a motorcycle again.

6. In your job, a swab means something very different from its role in the motorcycle world, where it’s used as a cold start aid on older motorcycles. How reliable is your Felsberg in extreme weather?

I’ve never had starting problems. No matter what the weather or time of day: my Brixton starts up without any trouble when I press the start button. In my job, I’m used to the fact that something can happen at any time. When I’m out and about with my Brixton, I enjoy being able to fully rely on it.

7. When do you most enjoy motorcycling?

Every day, genuinely. After a strenuous day working long shifts, getting on the moped and driving home is like a self-prescribed recovery cure. It’s freedom on two wheels. And I can ride every day without needing a prescription.
