Ellen on tour:

I’m Ellen, I am 35 years old and come from Germany. My Brixton Cromwell 125 in Timberwolf Grey is my first motorcycle and this month I travelled 2000km through Germany on it. With the “Women on Wheels” and the “Petrolettes”, I have immediately found a connection to two large women’s motorcycle clubs and made many great contacts.

Nevertheless, I had the idea of going on holiday on my own for the first time in the summer of 2024. “Travelling on a 125cc? Is that even possible?” – Absolutely!

What inspired you?

I was inspired by motorcycle trips in the 1950s – back then, people travelled to the Italian coast and back on small-displacement motorcycle as a matter of course.

I didn’t want to be quite so adventurous and first wanted to gain “motorcycle holiday experience” with a trip within Germany.

Where did we go?

I was travelling to the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and then back south through East Westphalia and the Ruhr area.

I set myself small goals after around 300 kilometers, planned breaks and created a route using “GoogleMaps” and the “GoRide” app.

Planned or spontaneous?

I booked hostel rooms for the first few nights. I also wanted to make stops with friends and family during my journey. For other sections, I decided to be spontaneous – both with the route and my accommodation.

Where did the journey lead?

On a very popular route with bikers!

I used a ferry for the first time to cross the waterways. Travelling by ferry on a motorcycle is similar to travelling by bike: you don’t have to queue for long – because you don’t need much space, you can get past the cars – and the tickets are cheap.

Some of the routes I chose went for kilometers through old forests, others along narrow country lanes, which I had no problem negotiating on my Brixton.

For my breaks, I simply chose local cafés and restaurants on the spur of the moment and got to know places that I would probably never have visited otherwise.

Were there any incidents?

Unfortunately, it didn’t go completely without incident: I had a small crash in a bend. Thanks to my motorcycle clothing, nothing happened to me and I was able to continue to my destination.

Journey home:

I arrived back home after travelling around 2000 km in total. I had a varied holiday, saw some great landscapes and had a really good time. I’ll be doing a lot more rides like this in the future and can recommend it to other motorcyclists.
