Rider of the month: Michele

I am Michele, 36 years old and biologist from Italy. When I am not busy working in a medical device business, I love to get on my Brixton Crossfire 500 X, which allows me to have fun on asphalt and off-road with a touch of retro fashion.

How did you get into motorcycling?

As is often the case in motorcycling, my father put me on a toy bike when I was 5 years old. Some years later, a friend of mine convinced me to get a real one, awakening what was a forgotten passion.

When and how did you become interested in photography?

As a biologist, I have always taken pictures of Nature, in its wonderful forms, during my college time.

Have you trained as a photographer or how can you take such beautiful pictures?

Actually, I’m self-taught. It amazes me how photography goes so well with motorcycling. I guess I gained some skills and experience during my college time as I worked as photographer for nature guides.

Do you have any tips for motorcyclists who want to take a professional picture with their motorcycle? What do they need to bear in mind?

Well… catching the light properly and having a suitable background are essential. However, taking good pictures is mainly about mindset, it’s important to take into account that every spot is never just a place, but rather a new way of looking at things.

Do you have any tips on how to make motorcycling even more fun?

I believe that spontaneity is the answer sometimes. Let your front tire and instinct guide you rather than the following the navigation device… getting lost is the key to finding oneself.

You share pictures of your Brixton almost daily – how often do you get to ride your Brixton?

Almost every day. I always have an excuse to ride my Crossfire 500 X, whether it’s to go to shopping, visit a friend or go to the gym. And then you know…the trips back home are always longer than they should be.

What’s the most exciting or adventurous experience you’ve ever had on your motorcycle?

I can remember many, but one with particular pleasure. During a solo trip in the mountains, I spotted a deer crossing the road. Since it did so calmly, I turned off the engine of my Crossfire 500 X and enjoyed the view until it disappeared into the woods.

What’s the longest route you’ve ever ridden and how did you prepare for it?

I have not yet tackled particularly long journeys as a Brixton rider. However, I’ve ridden for 500km in the central region of Switzerland touching almost all its main lakes. Before hitting the road for a long ride, it’s essential to check tires condition, engine oil, any leaks, the correct working of lights and indicators, coolant levels, lubrication and loosening of the chain.

Do you have a special memory of a particular ride? Which one and why?

Once I was in a solo ride when all of a sudden, I found myself in a huge biker gang of mostly Harley/Indian riders. We spontaneously rode together for about 100 km before splitting up, just enjoying together the same route.

If you could turn your own motorcycle into a living creature, what would it be and why?

Well, that would be a black wolf. I like how we blend into the night.

When is the motorcycle season over for you, are you still riding?

September is still perfect for riding. I try to ride all year round.

Although it is essential to take in consideration one’s own limits, a famous quote which ca be also applied to motorcycling goes: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing and soft people”.
