Rider of the month: Linda

I’m Linda, I’m from Switzerland and I don’t have any children yet. I love travelling and exploring the nature without stress. I’ve had my motorcycle licence for a relatively long time, but my Brixton Cromwell 125 is something new for me. I only got it two months ago.

In short: What is it like to ride a motorcycle as a woman?

I don’t see any difference between men and women – everyone should do what they like. I generally like to ride without a destination and without being in a hurry.

I first came into contact with a motorcycle a few years ago through a friend who gave me a lift on his backpack. Then a good friend of mine wanted to sell her motorbike and I bought it. My first experiences with it were rather unsafe – unfortunately this impression remained and I stopped riding. However, it never let go of me and today, 5 years later, I dare to try again with the Brixton and everything is going well!

You’ve only recently started riding – how would you describe riding?

What I particularly like is that the Brixton is easy to steer. As I am very small, the size is also ideal for me and my feet have good grip. I prefer to ride it comfortably and enjoy the scenery.

How did you get to Brixton?

Through a friend – suddenly one evening he showed me the Brixton homepage and said: ‘That would be a motorbike that would suit you perfectly.’ A few months later, I took a test ride and knew that it would really suit me. 😉

Do you have female friends who also ride motorcycles?

I actually know a few female friends who ride motorcycles – but that doesn’t matter to me. I like travelling with friends, male or female – the main thing is that we have a lot of fun together!

Do people sometimes look at you because you drive as a woman?

I rarely notice this myself – but people who are travelling with me do! But women often look at me – more enthusiastic than strange.

Do you have a bike-tip you would like to share?

Sure, I bought separate knee protectors and knee pads where I can slide the protectors in. This allows me to wear several different pairs of trousers, depending on where I’m going. You can’t really see the protectors and I’m still stylish and protected on the road.

If your Brixton had a superpower – what would it be?

It would be really great if my Brixton could talk to me during the ride.

Why did you choose a different brand for your second bike?

Before my Brixton, I rode another, relatively well-known brand. The position of the upper body is crucial. On my first bike, I found it difficult to steer in many bends, which unfortunately led to dangerous situations.
On my Cromwell 125, I can get on and ride off without any stress or effort.

What would you like to say to girls who would also like to start riding a motorcycle?

It is important that you have a mentor who will practise with you at the beginning and teach you how to ride. Start with short trips and build up slowly. It is also worth buying a bike that is suitable for beginners, such as the Brixton.
